Azithromycin and ciprofloxacin have a chloroquine-like effect on respiratory epithelial cells

FULLTEXT: bioRxiv

Abstract

A BioRxiv preprint in the BioRxiv COVID-19 collection: a study from the AIM center indicating that azithromycin and ciprofloxacin have effects similar to chloroquine in human respiratory epithelial cells. It’s up to clinicians to consider whether to resort to compassionate use of ciprofloxacin when there is a shortage of hydroxychloroquine or azithromcyn. Cautionary notes and disclaimer: (i) these are in vitro data and are yet to be tested in the clinic, and (ii) the study has not yet been peer reviewed and is posted with BioRxiv for urgency.
